Dépôt de sable

The Dépôt de sable was a company that used to grind worn industrial linings, refractories and slags (a glass-like by-product of the steel smelting process) as well as carbonaceous wastes from the manufacturing of electrodes and carbon electrodes waste. The end-product was mainly used for making new industrial linings or refractories or as part of a blended cement.

The permit for these activities is still valid until 2025, but because the noisy and dusty grinding plant was the source of several hundred complaints from the nearby residential area, the company had to stop its activities.

Despite the amount of bags with carbon dust that looked like they could have been ground only yesterday, the machinery used for the grinding process definitely looked like it was taken out of service a while ago…
